SEO for tradies
SEO for tradies: more calls from Google, Google Maps and AI search
SEO for tradies is the work that gets a trade business found when people nearby search for the job they need done, like "electrician near me", "roof repairs" or "blocked drain", in Google's results, in Google Maps and in AI answers.
We do SEO and Google Maps work that brings calls and enquiries from people searching for what you do, reported in enquiries, not just rankings. This page is also a practical tradie SEO guide you can follow yourself.

Key takeaways
- Tens of thousands of Australians search for a tradie every month, mostly on a phone and mostly with "near me".
- Your Google Business Profile wins "near me" searches. Your website wins the specific jobs.
- Copied suburb pages and missing tracking are the two problems we find most.
- Leads sites rent you jobs. SEO builds calls that come to you alone.
How much do Australians search for tradies?
Real searches, Australia-wide, from SE Ranking (October 2026). Figures are rough monthly averages.
| Search | Searches a month | Cost per click on Google Ads |
|---|---|---|
| plumber near me | about 47,500 | about $7.90 |
| locksmith near me | about 47,500 | about $2.90 |
| electrician near me | about 40,500 | about $6.20 |
| removalists | about 14,800 | about $6.60 |
| pest control near me | about 12,100 | about $4.90 |
| landscaping | about 12,100 | about $2 |
| air conditioning installation | about 10,800 | about $4.50 |
| handyman near me | about 8,100 | about $1.40 |
| garage door repairs | about 6,600 | about $5.50 |
| roof repairs | about 5,400 | about $6.20 |
| tree removal | about 3,600 | about $3.80 |
| roof restoration | about 3,200 | about $6.10 |
Two things stand out. First, "near me" is in most of the biggest searches, and Google answers those with the map, so your Google Business Profile matters more than any single web page. Second, the cost per click shows what advertisers pay to win the same customer: every call SEO brings in is one you don't pay for.
When trade searches go up and down
Demand changes through the year. Over the past 12 months (SE Ranking, December 2025 to October 2026):
- "air conditioning installation" ranged from about 6,600 to 14,800 searches a month, highest in April.
- "landscaping" was highest in December, at about 18,100, and settled around 12,100 from mid-year.
- "removalists" held at about 18,100 a month for most of the year before easing to about 14,800.
- "air conditioning installation"highest in April
6,600 to 14,800 searches a month, highest in April.
- "landscaping"highest in December
12,100 to 18,100 searches a month, highest in December.
- "removalists"high most of the year
14,800 to 18,100 searches a month, high most of the year.
Plan your pages and Google Ads budgets around your own trade's busy months: update the page for a job before the rush, not during it.
What we find on most trade websites
When we look at a tradie's website and Google profile for the first time, the same problems come up. In Wilson's words, from the websites we take over:
"The website looks outdated. They are not optimised properly; the contents were written for the Google algorithm of 10 years ago. A lot of them use programmatic SEO: their previous SEO provider just copied the template from an existing location to build the new location pages but forgot to change the location in the meta title and body contents."
What that looks like in practice:
- Copied suburb pages. One location page copied for every suburb, with only the main headings changed. The page title and the text underneath still name the first suburb. Google sees near-identical pages and ranks none of them well.
- Words written for an old Google. Keyword-stuffed pages that read badly to customers and no longer work with Google either.
- No tracking, or messy tracking. Enquiry tracking in Google Analytics is missing or counts the wrong things, so nobody can say which calls came from the website.
- One page for everything. Every service on one long page, so none of them ranks on its own.
We fix these first. Every suburb page is written for that suburb, and tracking counts real calls and forms before we report a single number.
Leads sites or SEO?
Many tradies buy leads from sites like hipages or find work through Airtasker. The difference:
| Leads sites | SEO | |
|---|---|---|
| Who gets the job | Often several tradies get the same lead | The customer calls you |
| What you pay | Per lead or per job, every time | A monthly cost while it builds |
| What you own | Nothing when you stop paying | Your Google profile, website and reviews |
| How fast | Straight away | Months for busy searches |
Many tradies use both while SEO builds. The aim is to need the leads sites less each year.
The tradie SEO checklist
Tick these off in order. (Interactive on the page.)
- Google Business Profile claimed, with the right main category for your trade and extra categories for what you really do.
- Every service listed in the profile, your service area set, and your home or yard address hidden.
- Real photos of your team, vehicles and finished jobs.
- A page on your website for each main job you want more of.
- Your licence number on every page and in your profile, where your trade has one.
- A tappable phone number on every page and an enquiry form that works on a phone.
- Your business name, address (or service area) and phone the same everywhere online.
- A review request after every job, the same day.
- Google Search Console set up and your pages indexed.
- Calls and forms counted in Google Analytics, each enquiry once.
- Suburb pages only for areas you want work from, each written for that suburb.
- Schema markup on the site, matching what the page says.
Your first 30 days
Days 1 to 7: your Google Business Profile
A business's free listing on Google Search and Google Maps, with hours, reviews and photos. Pick the main category that matches your trade, list every service, set your service area and add real photos. For "near me" searches, this is what customers see first. More: what is the Google snack pack?
Days 8 to 14: a page for each main job
Your top 3 to 5 jobs, one page each. Each page answers what the customer searched: what the job involves, how soon you can come, a price guide if you're comfortable, your licence, and photos of that job.
Days 15 to 21: reviews and listings
Ask every customer this week for a Google review. Then fix any old address or phone number on directories. Citations are listings of a business's name, address and phone on other websites, which must match everywhere.
Days 22 to 30: tracking and one real suburb page
Set up call and form tracking, then write one page for the area you most want work from. If you could copy it for the next suburb by swapping the name, it isn't ready.
Local SEO for tradies who travel to customers
Local SEO is helping a business show up when people nearby search for its service. For trades it has one twist: most tradies are a service-area business: a business that travels to customers, like most tradies, and shows an area instead of an address. Google lets you hide your home or yard address and list the suburbs you serve. We set your profile up that way and build pages for those areas, so you show in the suburbs you want, not only the one you're based in. Read more about our local SEO.
Tracking that counts jobs
Conversion tracking means measuring the calls and enquiries that come from ads and the website, not just clicks. For a tradie: every tap on your phone number counted, every form counted once, and calls from your Google Business Profile checked in its own performance numbers. Without it, nobody can say which jobs came from SEO.
How tradies get recommended by AI tools
Customers now ask ChatGPT, Google's AI answers and Perplexity for tradies too. AI search optimisation is making a business easy for AI tools to find, trust and recommend. What helps:
- The same details everywhere. Google and AI tools trust a business more when its name, address and details match everywhere.
- A Bing listing. Bing's index also feeds ChatGPT search.
- Pages that answer real questions, such as what a job costs and how long it takes.
- Reviews that name the job and suburb.
Try it: ask ChatGPT "who is a good [your trade] in [your suburb]?" and see who it names. More: AI search visibility.
What our SEO for tradies includes
If you'd rather hand the list above to someone else:
- Google Business Profile: the right trade categories, every service, service area, hours and real photos.
- Service and suburb pages: one clear page for each main job, and pages only for the areas you want work from.
- Reviews: customer reviews on Google and other sites, which help both rankings and trust. A simple way to ask after every job. Never fake or paid.
- Listings that match: we find and fix the old ones.
- Local links: backlinks are links from other websites to yours, which Google treats as votes of trust. Suppliers, trade associations and local sites, never cheap link packages.
- Tracking you can trust, set up in Google Analytics before any report goes out.
- AI search: the same groundwork helps you show in Google's AI Overviews, the AI-written answers Google now shows above, or instead of, the normal results, and in ChatGPT.
Tradie marketing: SEO, website and Google Ads together
SEO is one part of tradie marketing online, and of marketing for tradies generally. The other two:
- Your website. If it's old, slow or hard to use on a phone, people leave before they call. We rebuild your website first, using your own words and photos. You see the new site before you pay anything. Pay only if you like it. See websites for tradies.
- Google Ads. Google Ads for tradies, checked and improved every week, with reporting in calls and enquiries you can see. Calls from the day the ads go live, while SEO builds. See Google Ads for tradies.
Most tradies do best with a good website first, then SEO, with Google Ads for the busy times or the jobs they want more of. We also run Facebook and Instagram ads that bring in leads, when they suit your trade.
SEO for each trade
The method is the same for every trade; the searches are not. We have experience with tradies, including roofers, air conditioning, landscapers, electricians, builders, plumbers and other trades.
Electricians: switchboards, safety switches, EV chargers and after-hours calls.
Roofers: leak repairs after storms, restorations and gutters, where photos sell the job.
Air conditioning: split and ducted installs and servicing, with a big seasonal swing.
Landscapers: design and build projects and ongoing maintenance.
Builders: renovations, extensions and new homes, where trust and a licence number matter most.

SEO for tradies FAQs
Is SEO worth it for a tradie?
Usually, if people in your area search for what you do, and most trade work is searched for. SEO takes time, but it keeps bringing calls without paying for each click. If it isn't right for your business, we'll tell you.
How long does tradie SEO take?
Fixes to your Google Business Profile and website can help within weeks. Showing for busy searches across your main suburbs usually takes several months.
How much does SEO cost for a tradie?
Usually around $1,500 to $2,000 + GST a month for a small local business, depending on your services, suburbs and competition. No lock-in contract.
Is SEO better than buying leads from hipages or Airtasker?
Lead sites send the same job to several tradies, and you pay for every lead. SEO builds calls that come to you alone, from your own Google profile and website. Many tradies use both while SEO builds.
Can I do tradie SEO myself?
The basics, yes: follow the checklist and 30-day plan on this page. Most tradies get stuck on time, tracking and technical problems they can't see. A free SEO audit shows what's wrong on your website first.
How do I show up in several suburbs?
Set your Google Business Profile as a service-area business, then give each main area its own page written for that area: the jobs you do there and how you get there. Copying one page and swapping the suburb name doesn't work.
What's the best SEO company for tradies in Adelaide?
We won't call ourselves the best: judge any SEO company by what it does each month, who does it, and whether it reports real calls and enquiries. Our guide to how to choose an SEO company lists the questions to ask, including to us.
Is SEO dead now with AI?
No. AI tools build their answers from the same websites, profiles and reviews that SEO works on. A business that's easy for Google to understand is easier for AI tools to recommend.
Do you work with my trade?
We work with 26 trades, from plumbers and electricians to crane hire and building inspectors. If yours isn't listed, the method still works the same way.
