How much does a website cost in Australia? Key takeaways
- Small business websites in Australia range from about $600 to $15,000+, depending on what's included.
- The price follows the work: number of pages, custom design, writing, online store, and how well it's set up for Google.
- Hosting is a separate, ongoing cost.
- The cheapest sites often leave out what brings calls: tracking, a page per service, and SEO basics.
- Always ask who owns the website and the domain when it's finished.

What drives website design cost?
How many pages
A five-page site costs less than a 30-page site. For a local business, the right number is usually one page per main service and per main area, plus home, about and contact.
Template or custom design
A template with your logo is quick and cheap. A custom design takes longer and costs more.
Who writes the words
If you write the content, the price drops. If the web designer writes it, or rewrites old copy, the price goes up.
Online store
An online store (e-commerce) website, on Shopify, WooCommerce or BigCommerce, costs more because of products, checkout, payments and shipping.
Set up to be found
A website that's built for SEO from day one has the right page structure, titles and headings, page speed (how fast a website loads and responds; slow sites lose visitors before they call), mobile-friendly design (a website that is easy to read and use on a phone, where most local customers search) and schema markup: code that tells Google and AI tools exactly what a business is, where it is and what it offers. That work costs a little more and pays for itself in calls.
What about hosting?
Website hosting is the server that keeps a website online, fast and secure. For a small business it's usually a monthly or yearly fee on top of the build. Ours is free for the first year on the tradie rebuild, then $30 + GST per month (subject to change). Check that hosting includes HTTPS, the padlock in the browser that shows a website is secure.
What cheap websites usually leave out
On old trade websites we take over, the same things come up:
- No tracking, so nobody knows which calls and forms the website brings in.
- One page for every service, so Google can't match the site to specific searches.
- Location pages copied from a template, with the wrong suburb left in the titles.
- The agency owns the domain or won't hand over the files. One owner we've read about waited "8 months later with no website or refund"; another said the provider "will not give me the password".
Who should own the website?
You. Your domain name decides who legally holds your website address; it should always be registered in the business's own name. Ask for every file and every login when the site is finished.
A cheaper way to get a better website (for tradies)
We rebuild your website first, using your own words and photos. You see the new site before you pay anything. Pay only if you like it. From $800 + GST, with 1 year of free hosting. After that, hosting is $30 + GST per month (subject to change). You own all the design files. See websites for tradies.
For new websites and online stores, we quote after looking at what you need. No lock-in contracts. Stay because it works. See small business website design.
