How we pour

Five steps. Most of the work is underneath.

  1. Prepare

Dig out, compact the base and plan the falls so water drains away.

  2. Formwork

Timber or steel forms set to height and shape.

  3. Steel and pour

Reinforcing placed on chairs, then the concrete poured.

  4. Finish

Screeded, floated and finished: broom, aggregate or honed.

  5. Joints and cure

Control joints cut and the slab kept moist while it cures.

About hairline cracks

Concrete shrinks as it cures, and almost every slab gets fine hairline cracks over time. We can't promise it won't crack. What we do is prepare the base properly, use reinforcing where it's needed and cut control joints so cracks are most likely to form along the joints, where you won't notice them.

Questions

Driveways FAQs

Plain, coloured or exposed aggregate?

It depends on the look and budget. Exposed aggregate is popular because it hides dirt; plain is the most affordable.

How long before I can drive on it?

It depends on the mix and weather. We tell you when it's safe for cars, and it's longer than you can walk on it.

Do you remove the old driveway?

Yes. We cut, break out and take it away.

Do you handle council crossover approvals?

Where your council needs one, we can help with the paperwork. Ask us when you book.
